Michaela loves for me to make her birthday cakes and so does Millicent. Between birthdays, I am baking for silent auctions, parties, PTA, class events and so on...
I'm not a professional, but, I do enjoy baking cakes; the pure aroma is enough to make my day a little brighter!
This cake has homemade buttercream icing...
vegetable shortening
butter
confectioner's sugar
a little water or milk
vanilla or other extract you like most
As far as the baking part of cakes, I have that down perfectly. The cake decorating is another issue. I have fun with the Wilton decorating tips and I will soon take a course to learn how to make those pretty roses and other flowers...once I get that down, I will probably be able to pull off more decorating tricks.
My other plan is to do a fondant icing...that will be so neat!
Baking a cake the Continental method usually means greasing and flouring a cake pan, preheating an oven, pouring the cake mix (assuming you have already followed boxes directions) and placing in oven from 20-40 minutes depending on the size and style of the cake pan, how much batter and what type of mix you have.
Cakes are best when they are moist and allowed to fully cool before icing and cooled again before serving.
I do, however have to admit I love hot cake with melting icing...but, that's just my indulgence dream.
If you have any comments and/or questions, please let me know!
Thank you!
Nina
